Typography - week 4

This week we gonna discuss about typography. Typography is the practical art of arranging how the printed word appears on the page. Typography includes not only letters, but all the set of symbols in a font, and it includes the overall design of a page or document. Typography are the fonts that are usually been used for books, pamphlets, newspapers and advertisements.

For an example of typography is "Broadway" font. Broadway is a decorative typeface, perhaps the archetypal Art Deco typeface. The original face was designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1927 for ATF as a capitals only display face. It had a long initial run of popularity, before being discontinued by ATF in 1954. It was re-discovered in the Cold Type Era and has been since been used to evoke the feeling of the twenties and thirties.

There were various type of Broadway's font and been redesigned by many designer. For example,

IS IT A MATRYOSHKA or A SHIRT?

Folded t-shirts is too common for packaging. That's why designers from DarkDesignGroup in Russia created an unusual packaging for it.

Its packaged based on Matryoshka doll. Its also known as Russian nesting dolls, stacking dolls, or Russian dolls which is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another.

The transparent form of Matryoshka is a completely new solution for T-shirts. People can see the t-shirt's design through it. By the original design and unusual shape packaging, it truly non-traditional and attract people. The plastic packaging consists of two parts and is made by thermoforming.

Packaging for Matryoshka won the silver medal at the international design competition Pentawards 2009 in the category 'Body'.

Week 1

Henry Ford. Who is he? He was an American captain of industry and a business magnate, the founder of the Ford Motor Company.

"A MAN WHO STOPS ADVERTISING TO SAVE MONEY IS LIKE A MAN WHO STOPS A CLOCK TO SAVE TIME".

From the quote, advertising plays an important role in business. Without advertising, society will not be aware of the existence of a company or branding.  If a company or brand stops producing new ads or come out with some new ads, other competitors will take the opportunity to increase their profits by releasing new ads to the society. While those who stops advertise even for a while, they will suffer losses and the time passed can not be recovered.

So, grasp the opportunity and advertise with any way to gather people's attention.
